Can numbering start from a number other than 1?

Yes — set “Start at” to any number, useful when the document continues from another file.

Can I show total pages, like 3 / 12?

Yes — choose the “1 / 12” style and every page shows its number and the total.

Will the numbers overlap my content?

They are placed in the margin area (28pt from the edge). Pick a different corner if your layout is unusually full.
